The prophet ( peace be upon him ) narrated " It is better that you leave your heirs rich than leaving them like a burden asking other people for help .

With these kind words we start this introduction to sum the motto and goals of the Social Security Fund . Cooperation is the basis of life and it’s a necessary demand among all participating  members  in the SSF for their benefit and betterment . It is like an insurance policy , after the all Mighty Allah , for them and their families and friend's families .
The Social Security Fund was established to bear the responsibilities , which can not be afforded by the individual . This led to collect small amounts of the monthly income of the vast majority of the members so that the SSF can perform its objective .
 

Establishment & Development Of the Social Security Fund :

Kuwait University is considered one among the pioneering entities in the field of establishing cooperative funds and working to strengthen social ties among its staff members from the early seventies . The idea started in the early seventies when a suggestion , presented by a number of workers at KU , was approved to establish a fund among them to cooperate in providing social care for families of the deceased and to help their friends who go through difficult financial times without referring to donation campaigns , which might affect the integrity of the employee's and/or his/her family . The SSF provides a level of psychological security among its members , which strengthens ties among university employees . This , surely has a positive effect on the employee's performance on the job .

The University Administration approved establishing this fund on December 18 , 1971 and its charter was practically approved on March 13,1972 .
Until now , the fund was able to set a bright record full of accomplishments and charity work despite the many challenges that made other similar funds in other government authorities fail to continue .
 

Objectives :

Developing and supporting relationships among members in humanitarian social fields .

Performing social services for members and their families .

Offering financial assistance for members and their families after them .

 

Membership :

The Social Security Fund membership is an optional choice for Kuwait University workers regardless of their positions and status .
 

The Conditions of membership :

1. The applicant must be an employee at Kuwait University .
2. The applicant must fill the membership application form and attach personal photo to be approved by his/her workplace .
3. Unless approved by the board of the SSF , an applicant is not considered a member in the SSF only having the approval of his workplace .

Membership  Fees :

The monthly fees for all members is determined based on a percentage of the total salary that equals 1% for every month subtracted from the monthly salary of members . The Department of Financial handles subtracting the indicated percentage and transferring it to the SSF account .
 
Membership Expiration :

1. Termination of work relation between Kuwait University and any SSF member for any reason .
2.   If the member presented a written request wishing to withdraw from the SSF membership .
3.   Note : It's not permissible for a member to withdraw from the SSF membership before a period of 4 years .

Membership Benefits :

First : Conditions and situations of financial aid :
To reach the SSF objectives mentioned in the charter , members of the SSF cooperate among themselves to offer financial aid for a member or his / her family after the member demises from the total of their membership fees .Subtraction is made based on the monthly membership according to the following cases :

Cases deserving financial aid are death , end of service due to health deficiency .

The conditions of offering such an aid are the validity of membership upon occurrence of death or health deficiency is the result of a physical handicap or an accident or an illness while having  proper documentation from the concerned authorities .

Second : Types and conditions of loans :

• The social loan : It is almost one month's salary and does not exceed KD 1000 . Period of repayment is ten months ( without profits ) .
• Consuming loan : It's amount is amount is determined by the monthly salary category .
• Hajj loan : It is offered once only and the board of the SSF decides the amount on a yearly  basis despite the fact the a part of the amount of the loan is considered a grant from the SSF to the member (  nonrefundable ) while the rest of the loan is repaid within a period of 10 months without profits .
• Omrah loan : the administration of the SSF organizes a yearly trip to perform Omrah paid in full for the member with one companion . The loan is repaid in period of 8 months  without profits .
• Note : Types & conditions of loans are subject to change , amendments , and  additions whenever necessary while the administration of the SSF has the right to take any action based on the benefit of the SSF .

Third : Social & cultural activities trips :

Holding recreational and charitable parties and making internal  and external trips are some ways specified by the charter to reach one of many major objectives for which the SSF was established which is to strengthen social relationships ties among members . As a result , the administration of the SSF has paid special attention in this issue and formed a permanent committee to organize programs and activities while following up their execution . The most important of these actions are the following:

• Cultural Activities : such as debates , seminars , and lectures which discuss the social aspects and job aspects that concerns the members .
• Social activities and internal recreational trips : The administration of the SSF organizes a monthly recreational trip to one of the recreational facilities inside the state of Kuwait . This trip is offered to the members and their families at discounted prices because the SSF pays a certain amount of the price .
• Trips Abroad to Arabic & foreign countries .
